SaySnap is a hands-free camera app that uses speech recognition to fire the shutter automatically when it hears your trigger word. Just say "cheese" — no tapping required. With Japanese, English, and fully customizable trigger word modes, SaySnap makes selfies and group photos effortless.
Powered by iOS's SFSpeechRecognizer, SaySnap listens for your chosen trigger word and fires the shutter the moment it's detected. Say "cheese" — or any word you like — to take the shot.
Switch between Japanese mode ("Say Cheese" in Japanese), English mode ("cheese"), and Custom mode. In Custom mode you can set any trigger word and choose between Japanese and English speech recognition.
Swap between the front and rear camera with a single tap. Whether you're shooting a selfie or a group photo, switching cameras is fast and seamless — no need to change your grip.
Every photo is saved directly to your device's Photo Library the moment the shutter fires. A brief flash animation confirms each capture so you always know the shot was taken.
Tap the microphone button to start listening. SaySnap waits for your trigger word and fires the shutter the instant it's detected. The captured photo is saved to your Photo Library automatically. While listening, the trigger word and a waiting indicator are shown on screen so you always know the app is ready.
Open Settings to switch between Japanese, English, and Custom modes. The trigger word for each mode can be edited freely in the text field. Custom mode also lets you choose the speech recognition language — Japanese or English — independently, so you can set up your own perfect shutter phrase.
Before comparing against your trigger word, recognized text goes through normalization: hiragana is converted to katakana, punctuation and whitespace are stripped, and everything is lowercased. This means natural speech patterns — pauses, punctuation inserted by the recognizer — don't prevent detection. "Say, Cheese" and "saycheese" both match "cheese" reliably.
SaySnap requests camera, microphone, and speech recognition permissions together on first launch. The camera view only appears once all three are granted, preventing mid-session errors. If any permission is missing, a clear guidance screen walks you through enabling it.
Tap the blue microphone button at the bottom left of the screen. SaySnap begins listening immediately and shows your trigger word and a waiting message in the center of the screen.
Say "cheese" — or whichever trigger word you've set — clearly toward the device. The moment SaySnap recognizes the word, the shutter fires and a flash animation confirms the shot.
The captured photo goes straight to your device's Photo Library. Head to Settings any time to change your trigger word, switch modes, or adjust the recognition language.
"Group photos were always a hassle — someone always ends up missing or blinking. With SaySnap I just prop up my phone, tap the mic, and count down with "Say Cheese!" Everyone's smiling at the exact same moment. We even set our own custom trigger word as a group. Total game changer."
"I take a lot of selfies and reaching for the button always ruins the shot. Voice shutter is genuinely brilliant. The recognition is reliable even when I'm holding the phone at arm's length. Setup took about ten seconds and it just works."
"I use this to photograph my cat, who bolts the second I touch the screen. Now I can hold the camera steady and just say the word — the shutter fires without any movement. English mode and custom mode both work great. Can't imagine going back."
